Packing Tips
You're moving, you
have a million things going on. Any chore you can get rid of will help
you with your peace of mind. While Bisson's trained people carefully
and meticulously pack your household, you can be taking care of those
other final details.
Bisson can make your
move care-free with our professional packing personnel. Our trained
packers use nothing but clean, sturdy materials designed especially
for moving: boxes, crates and cartons designed to protect your china,
glassware, clothing, pictures and antiques... or files, computers and
office supplies. Give yourself a break and have us do the packing.
However, should you wish to pack yourself, here are a few tips to
ensure your belongings arrive in good condition.
Packing
tips for Residential Customers
Pack
cartons snugly - Use
unprinted newspaper (ink stains) to fill in "holes".
Fill to the top, when stacked, half-full cartons tend to crush.
Wrap items that could be scratched or crushed.
Stay
under 50 lbs. per carton - Someone has to lift it, if its
too heavy the bottom can fall and damage the contents. Tape each
carton securely, do not use masking tape.
Use
a Bisson Dishpack for fragile items - The individual
sections inside the carton are designed to hold plates in one
section, glasses and stem-ware in another, and cups in a third.
Pack dishes on edge, side by side and at the bottom of the
carton.
Point
cup handles and pitcher spouts - toward the center of the
carton, never next to the sidewall.
Pack
books and records on end in a small carton - Valued books
should be wrapped in paper or tissue first. Nest lamp shades
separately in lightly crumpled paper.
Do
not pack flammables, aerosols, bleach, corrosives or plastic
squeeze bottles - Its best to take them in your car, or give
them away. Tape shut food boxes and medicines.
Avoid
liquids - Tightly sealed glass containers may be wrapped and
packed if there is no danger of freezing in transit.
Mark
your packed cartons well - It will be much easier for you to
find what you are looking for.
Prepare
a 'First Day' carton - Pack a few dishes, soap, towels,
toilet paper, toys, a lamp, etc.
Use
"natural" containers - Leave clothing in bureaus
and dressers. Be sure to remove heavy, fragile or flammable
items.
Protect
mirrors, pictures and glasses in flat cartons - Small
pictures can be wrapped and packed on edge in medium cartons.
Use
common sense - Make sure everything is well padded and
secure from movement inside the carton.
